To create an educational book to counter racism.

The idea was to create a book to educate, to give more information specifically to school age children to be aware of racism. Disinformation is basically where the racism coming from. If we educate children we can eradicate the racist and xenophobic situation.

David Cameron said that if we educate people from school age we will save time and prevent the hatred of certain minorities on the basis of their skin colour.

The aim of this project would be to create a friendly educational illustrated book, where the history of Lucy will be explained. Lucy is the woman who we all come from genetically, all of us share her DNA. A range of illustrations telling the history, will be created including book layout and typography work.

People, from a very early age can understand where we come from and they can respect each other. I want to create solutions against racism, which has been a huge problem through history, and today still remains so. Racism is inflated by fears, economic crisis and unbalanced wealth and inequality.

What has inspired me to create this solution is the most recent news about the number of racist incidents, which have been recorded in British schools. What really inspired me is my desire to create a better place to live, filled with better neighbors and better human beings. Ideally I would like to enable children all over the world to have the same chances in life, free from discrimination.

My intentions were to tell a story mixing text and image. I intend to explain that we have different skin tones depending where our ancestors came from. Evolution hasn’t been made in two days, it has taken hundreds of thousand of years for us to become what we are today. The skin is an organ, which naturally contains melanin, a natural protector of our skin. When Lucy went out of Africa, her descendants travelled around the globe and evolution, melanin and the UVA from the sun made the skin tone changes possible. As skin is exposed to the sun, the melanin gets darker. In the polar regions, skin needed to evolve and change to a whiter tone to fit better within the environment.
