The goal of this project was to design a special collector's edition system for a musical artist. I choose to design elements for Frank Ocean's 'Channel Orange'. I wanted to focus on the concept of the fluid and watery feel of his music as well as the feelings of nostalgia. The album title was inspired by the concept of synethesia so I brought in different colors to allude to that.
For the collector's edition I decided to design CD packaging, CD, lyric book, poster, headband, t-shirt, and a website.
I decided to focus on abstract photography because I thought the medium would work well to capture the fluid feel and emotions with Frank Ocean's music. I decided to focus on photographing drops of food coloring in water because I thought that it would create lovely diaphanous and billowy forms that would appropriately mimic the sound and feel of the music. I photographed different colors of food coloring to allude to the album's concept of synesthesia and the different emotions depicted in the album.
