Brief
Create 3 original cover illustrations, each with a double page spread for Little White Lies Magazine.
Concept
Celebrating the film career of Robin Williams through a series of designs that reflect each film uniquely.
Solution
Each cover and double page spread has a unique style and design that has been inspired by the characters, events and locations of the chosen film. The portraits reflect the transitions of Robin Williams’ characters in each film with split or merged illustrations.
Illustration Development
For the portraits of each cover, styles were chosen that were relevant to each of the 3 chosen films.
At the top are three line drawn portraits for Jumanji (1995).The Line drawing style was inspired by the use and importance of wood throughout the film. The central two portraits from Bicentennial Man (1999), were pencil drawn; Pencil creating grey tones similar to that of metal. For the third film, Mrs Doubtfire (1993), I chose to remain with a realism pencil style, reflecting the most realistic events of the 3 films.
Outcome - Magazine Covers
The three magazine covers were created with inspiration from each appropriate film. Each cover features an illustration style and design that reflects certain textures, colours and images from the three chosen films. The illustrations featured on the covers consist of 2 different portraits edited together to represent a transition between multiple character personality’s or at different ages.
Outcome - Double Page Spreads
Little White Lies’ magazines are known for their covers and spreads having a unique consistent theme and style throughout each issue.
The three final designs each reflect their cover, in style and design. The spreads also include an individual portrait illustration, quote and a section of the film’s synopsis.
