Art exhibition: Un mondo di pane / Shots of bread

May 5 - 29, 2015 at the Mediateca Santa Teresa of Milan, Italy

These events were sponsored by EXPO 2015 and by The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism. They are are part of the program EXPO IN CITTÀ (EXPO in the City).
The exhibitions are part of Alimenta la Mente! (Feed your Mind!), a series of shows belonging to the project Non di Solo Pane (Not of Bread Alone) created by Susanna Vallebona, director of the art gallery SBLU_spazioalbello.

My role in the project spanned from Gallery Assistant and Preparator to public relations.
Gallery Assistant
·         Assisted professional curators during set up and fine tuning of the exhibition.
·         Actively participated in the assembly and mounting of the exhibit stands.
Preparator
·         Kept direct communication and close contact with the artists.
·         Gathered and arranged all materials necessary for the exhibit.
·         Collaborated in the creation of paper and digital artwork (postcards, posters, catalogues,                           signs, banners, etc.).
Public Relations
·         Greeted and welcomed visitors at opening night, and answered immediate questions.
·         Actively participated in photo sessions.

Un Mondo di Pane (A World of Bread) Dedicated to the topics of consumerism and distribution of wealth in the world, the exhibit offers various and disparate interpretations of a heterogeneous group of artists from different countries and cultures. Mirroring a society that consumes natural resources with the same indifference with which it objectifies the female body, the artists in the exhibition, through their work, seek a reflection that often has the tone of a denunciation. From the grains of rice on which are written small letters forming phrases by Erica Battello, to the pathos of Josè Molina’s work. Through the work of Alessandra Barocco, Arte tra la gente, Andrea Chisesi, Mirella Migliorato, we have the opportunity to explore, even with irony, contemporary times full of contradictions.

The initiative was attended by the following artists:
ARTE TRA LA GENTE / ALESSANDRA BAROCCO / ERICA BATTELLO / MARIO BORGESE / MARIA AMALIA CANGIANO / ANDREA CHISESI / MARIA ANASTASIA COLOMBO/ DANIELA DENTE / IUCCIA DISCALZI LOMBARDO / NICOLETTA FRIGERIO / MARINA FURLANIS / SABRINA GHIRI / EMANUELE MAGRI / GIULIANA MALDINI / MIRELLA MIGLIORATO / JOSÈ MOLINA / ROBERTO MUSCINELLI / PAOLA ZAN

Shots of Bread – The exhibition offers an overview of photographs dedicated to the theme of the project Non di Solo Pane, seen through the eye of a photographer. From reportage to still life, all the way to the experiments of Chiara Paderi, photography adapts itself to the mode of the time by offering innovative materials and techniques, which are representatives of the multiplicity of contemporary times. From the shots of famous chefs by Renzo Chiesa to the poetry of Lucia Covi’s images, which documents discreetly the timid pecks of a few sparrows eating a big loaf of bread especially prepared by the photographer from Milan. An enjoyable poetic exhibition of images carved into memory.

The initiative was attended by the following photographers:
LUCIO BARBUIO / MICHELA BENAGLIA / CARLA CACIANTI / RENZO CHIESA / LUCIA COVI / LELO CREMONESI / DANIELA GIODA / MASSIMO GROSSI / BILL HORNADAY / MARIO LA FORTEZZA / BARBARA MARTINI / CHIARA PADERI / ANDREA ROVATTI / NADIA SCANZIANI / ALICE WERBLOWSKY

Tabula Picta – A slideshow dedicated to art that has bread as its subject concludes the intensive program of Alimenta la Mente!. Over the centuries, bread was included in many works of art: Giotto, Leonardo, Caravaggio, Flemish painters, as well as Neapolitan and nineteenth century still lifes. Whether as a discrete element or as an actual protagonist, bread also plays a prominent role in the history of modern art: Picasso, Magritte, Fontana and Manzoni. A collection that does not claim to be exhaustive, but it is extensive enough to allow a glimpse of how much bread is the foundation of the food of Western culture.
