I'm a Lumberjack PEM/PM
February 2015

An artistic and creative take on working with wood.  I'm a Lumberjack was inspired by the opening of Audacious: The Fine Art of Wood exhibition, In Plain Sight: Discovering the Furniture of Nathaniel Gould, and PEM's Art & Nature Center exhibition Branching Out: Tree as Art.  Visitors and guests came dressed in their favorite flannel and beard attire, ready to pose in our Lumberjack Photobooth. They spent the night enjoying woodworking demos from Audacious wood-turning artist Derek Weidman and cross-cutting demos from professional Maine lumberjacks. All the while local band, Tigerman WOAH, provided the perfect backdrop with their Appalachian Mountain folk/bluegrass-influenced tunes.

Art, Off the Wall PEM/PM
January 2015

Art, Off the Wall took an unconventional approach to an evening filled with gallery games that allowed visitors to get up close and personal with art. Breaking boundaries with surprises in the galleries.

Raise a Glass PEM/PM
December 2014

PEM/PM Raise a Glass invited visitors to celebrate the holiday season with an evening dedicated to the art of mixology.  Guests enjoyed a night filled with holiday punch tastings, garnish demos from local bartenders, and a DIY wine glass charm activity.  Friends and families causally mingled while playing games of cocktail trivia and enjoyed comic stories of feasting and drinking from guest authors Molly Birnbaum and Jason Wilson.

Digital Detox PEM/PM
November 2014

Digital Detox was a night spent connecting to your creativity and unplugging from technology.  Guests and visitors joined us as we spent the evening hand writing letters, practicing the art of conversation while listening to acoustic music in the Atrium. We also offered visitors a chance to hand paint vinyl records and join in on an impromptu vinyl jam session.

Balance in Motion PEM/PM
October 2014

Inspired by the museum’s headlining exhibition, Calder and Abstraction: From Avant-Garde to Iconic, October’s PEM/PM celebrates the tension between balance and motion.  Visitors marveled at the aerial silk and static trapeze performances by Fearless Flyers Academy of Salem, they experienced the physics of swing dance led by the skilled instructors of the Boston Lindy Bomb Squad, and observed the art of indoor kite flying.  Guests also participated in wire art-making and DIY paper kites, they then flew around the museum.
