Jumpstart

Jumpstart are a leading R&D Tax Specialist based in Edinburgh. Their job is to save companies money on tax benefits through identifying R&D activity and drafting cases to send to HMRC.

A brief was written to design a whole new website, social media presence and promotional video content. I was tasked with creating a new layout and look for the website, with a focus on reducing the amount of long paragraphs of text on the site. Bitesize information was key, making the content enjoyable and more accessible than before.

Jumpstart also had a series of illustrations already in use, by illustrator Bill Walsh. Seeing potential in these, myself and the team desided to make use of the illustrations heavily within the new site. They're used to illustrate and break up the design of pages which would otherwise be solely text.

The website had another job - to direct traffic towards an online form more effectively, and generate more potential clients for the business. So on each page there are CTA's directing the user either to extra information, or a form.
Instead of the previous site's pages of long paragraphs, I took care to break down information into a more understandable format. Gateway pages are more flowing with illustrations, some static and some animated.

Case studies are a big part of Jumpstart's campaign. They like to show instead of tell, prove their success. As such, it was important to have highly visual, attractive case study pages on the site, with a video focussing on each of those clients, and some quotes/stats to back up claims.

A 'Why Jumpstart?' video was developed to demonstrate what Jumpstart can do for clients. I worked at finding the right feel, appropriate camera angles and shots and designed the animated name/info tags that appear throughout.
In addition to the videos, we commissioned staff photography to go on the new site. Photographer Jakub Iwanicki took desk shots, studio shots and composed a large team shot. These go a long way towards making Jumpstart about the people, as well as the excellent service they offer.
