The University of Newcastle Association of Pharmacy Students (UoNAPS) required a "fun and simple" logo that could be used on t-shirts, posters and other promotional materials. The design needed to be black and white, however the brief stated that they were open to a couple of other colours being used, and that the school colour was purple. The brief was open to all creative students.
Being a busy student juggling course work and an internship, I set myself a limit of time to answer this brief. First, I brainstormed ideas on the bus home from work (20 mins). I thought about what I (a layperson) associated with pharmacy; and what people within the industry associate with pharmacy. Appologies to all in the profession, but the Bowl of Hygieia did remind me of a martini glass. With a snake.
From my sketches I set myself two hours to work in Illustrator and refine the elements of the roughs that I thought were working, and create a proposal for UoNAPS with a few mockups. This was the core logo that I developed, and provided the association with some variations that could be used depending on context.
