7Cycle is an indoor cycling studio that aims to make short work of exercise with charismatic instructors, curated music playlists and a rave-like atmosphere within the studio. Recognising that the main attribute to living a healthy lifestyle is an activity that is fun, personal and exists as a community, 7Cycle was designed to embody those elements in its design, interiors as well as its overall experience - a place where indoor cycling and fun can call home.
The animated logo has seven spinning spokes that augers the group cycle element while not losing sight of the importance of retaining one’s personal 7-day healthy regime of exercise and nutrition. In the brand collaterals, neon orange accents are used alongside a pastel-like gradient palette to highlight elements of the brand’s intensity with its lighter touches. Under ultraviolet light, the neon glows in the dark, illustrating 7Cycle's dynamic, party-like experience.
Working with a traditional shophouse, a conscious effort was taken to restore elements of auspicious Chinese words to reflect the site’s heritage with the exception of relevant words associated with the 7Cycle brand – 健康 (Health), 愉快 (Happiness) and 和谐 (Harmony) on the facade. The intention was replicated with the translation of “7Cycle” (七旋集) and “Gym" (健身馆) onto the front pillars.
Two different moods were expressed in the interiors – areas of intensity and calm. For the workout studio and stairwell, we lit the space with black light and neon elements to invoke a more intense atmosphere and experience. Peranakan motifs in neon was employed to create a pop-art aesthetic on the stairwell, juxtaposed with the same motifs employed on the windows albeit in white. In contrast, the ambience in the showers, juice bar and reception space is light. The intention of the gesture was to promote a calm atmosphere for community, conversation and relaxation after a rewarding day’s work in the gym.
