LUMO - interface and prototypes

The hardware board
The hardware board has a grid of 5x5 buttons and it is connected to our mobile app via Bluetooth so that
a game can be played between the two devices. The hardware board consists of an Arduino Nano 328P which forms the central part of the hardware. The Arduino is connected with peripherals such as MAX 7219 LED Matrix driver and HC-06 Bluetooth module. A custom 5x5 Matrix Keypad and 5x5 Bi-Color LED matrix is made using custom PCB board which is driven by Arduino and LED matrix driver.

The mobile app
The Android application includes the game interface and interface for connecting and configuring the platform and a guide to help the novice user to get the platform up and running.
Paper prototype
LUMO can have many applications, but for our first prototype we chose to make a simple tic-tac-toe game.

Wireframe
After testing the initial prototypes we added more interactions to improve the game experience and to help the novice users.
LUMO mobile app - start menu
These are the final screens that were implemented in the mobile app.
LUMO mobile app - the game
UI elements in detail
The aim was to create mobile experience which is as close as possible to the experience with the real hardware board.
The future of LUMO
The tic-tac-toe game we created is just a simple idea we chose for the first prototype. But LUMO can have many other applications, the grid could be expanded to more than 3x3 buttons, it can be used for many other games or also for sending emoticons or text.
