I was put on a team to rebuild the Community Banking intranet site housing our internal tools and resources. In the process, I made the case to management to take advantage of the opportunity and completely redesign our presence using the new;y updated Content Management System (CMS) to improve the usability of the site. Due to my previous experience and passion for the project, I was quickly given the lead and became the site’s new owner and manager. Our previous internal site was very dated and little more than a giant list of links. After a careful analysis of our users and the current content, I created a new information architecture for the site to give it a natural organization and flow. Focusing on ease of navigation and usability, I created a consistent style and visual clues to develop the overall layout and structure of the site, paying particular attention to the limitations of our system and the skill set of the content managers. Finally, I worked with dozens of subject matter experts to review and update content before adding it to the site. Once built, I led the team in launching the new site through various internal communications and training. Post-launch, I remain responsible for managing the site and it’s continued evolution. Above are screen shots of two main pages in the new site that I designed. Below that is a diagram I used to explain to the project team and management the new organization and layout. Specifically focusing on the main navigation, here you can see how the site was divided into four main sections based on their business line. For each section, I used a simple color coding of the main elements, like the page header, to give users a visual clue as to where they were in the site. This diagram also helps to explain the use of a simple flyout menu, which a was a new feature in the CMS supporting the site.

Shown here are some of the supporting files developed in my initial research. The top-left four slides are taken directly from one of the initial proposal presentations coving my analysis of the previous site, users flows, and considerations for any technical limitations. On the bottom is a close up of the previous home page and on the right is the entire page, which clearly shows how it was being used a list of bookmarks.
