BRIEF

The brief was to recreate a still from a famous film. The film given to me was 'Ghost.' We had to plan and direct our own shoots.

RESPONSE

It seemed obvious to me that I should be recreating the infamous pottery wheel scene. I sourced the perfect location in the ceramics studio at Staffordshire University and asked my friends Emilie and Alex to be the models as Emilie had short, dark hair and Alex is of a muscular build. I directed the entire shoot down to what the models were wearing and the poses they were sat in. I had two assistants who I directed to help me with the lighting. Below shows the original scene and my remake.

Props.
Shelf of pots- This was already supplied in the ceramics workshop perfect for the scene.
Pottery wheel- Again, already in the workshop, we just moved it into position in front of the shelf.

Wardrobe & Styling.
This was fairly simple and I asked the models in advance to come suitably dressed.
Alex- Jeans & Shirtless.
Emilie- Shorts and a white top.

Technical Considerations.
Lights- According to the shadows in the original scene, the lighting comes from above them causing sharp shadows under the chins and down the arms. Also, while the models are clearly well lit, the surroundings are very dim and dark. The lighting didn't need any gels or tints added as it looks like a natural glow from the light sources.

Camera.
Nikon D90
ISO 160
F11

Other Equipment.
Tripod
Lighting
Honeycomb Grid Light Attachment
Reflector

Assistants.
-Drew McClelland
-Beth Prior

Action.
The shoot took approximately 2 hours including set up and lighting. Overall I took around 100 images for light tests and the actual shoot itself.
