The brief was to look at the idea of nostalgia. I decided to research into gender inequality. I decided on this subject as it is a growing interest for women to do more crafts and have more time of work to be able to do so. I therefore wanted to initially look at that cycle of how women used to have to stay in the household and learn crafts etc and now its women's choice to do so. The project then divulged into looking at how we look back on gender inequality with warm eyes, when we think of how much the suffragettes did for our country. I really wanted to re-evaluate how people view this in the sense of nostalgia and really wanted to pin point on how in fact in most of the world, gender inequality is constantly getting worse.
I therefore decided to incorporate both ideas by using the craft of quilting, with imagery and text which communicates this difference between our country and less developed countries.
