language of the future

A set of posters exploring the future of written language. I imagine that these posters would be used in the far future, when languages have mixed and evolved to be written in a combination of latin, perso-arabic, and chinese scripts.
The most spoken languages in the world today are Chinese, Spanish, English and Arabic. These encompass three writing systems/scripts: Chinese, Latin, and Perso-Arabic. Thinking about language itself, words are borrowed and mixed together from different cultures, and there are constantly new words and sounds being added. It's also interesting that every one of these languages has sounds that do not exist at all in the others, and odd letter combinations are used to express the sounds when attempting to write them out in different scripts.

I imagine that in the far future, where Earth has become a complete mix of languages and cultures, a new way of writing will emerge to reflect the different sounds in different languages. The same way languages are mixed to express different words, concepts and sounds, people in the future will need a way to combine them in writing.

As the most used scripts/lettering systems in the world are Chinese, Latin, and Perso-Arabic, I decided to mesh them together to express the concept of “dream.” The word “dream” was chosen for the many concepts it represents, one of which is the dream for a better future.

A hazy gradient evokes the feeling of “dream,” aesthetically suggesting slipping into a dream and waking up from one. The different colour variations show different types of dreams, from peaceful to happy to fearful or angry.
Zariy'ah was used for the Perso-Arabic script, Raleway for English, and Noto Sans for the Chinese. Google Translate was used for the Chinese.

While ideating, I was influenced by The Resonator, a graphic novel by Prentis Rollins, which deals with a future in which sleeping is almost illegal, and dreaming is treated as a drug. This led me to think of the very far future, in a science fiction mindset, imagining a time when people would need to be encouraged to dream, just as today we are encouraged to get a good night’s sleep. Perhaps new benefits of dreaming will be discovered, or we will better understand how dreaming works. Maybe at airports or other transit locations there would be dream stations, where one could dream away the time until their bus/train/plane arrives.
