PROJECT : Westworld
CLIENT : Department of Motion Design
OBJECTIVE : Create original storyboards for the HBO original Westworld.
ROLE : Designer

CONCEPT STATEMENT : A gun is dangerous technology with beautiful design, but there are so many things a gun has that makes the bullet lethal. Combined with up close beauty of a gun and circuits we see what’s really dangerous.

SYNOPSIS : Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin. Based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name, Westworld takes place in a futuristic theme park where adults pay to have humanoid androids act out their personal (and sometimes subversive) fantasies. This fully immersive virtual world allows guests to be whomever they want, and to act however they want—without rules or consequences. But when the androids begin to break from their assigned roles and kill the human guests, our worst fears about the nature of human behavior and artificial intelligence become reality.
TONE - An ink and blood motif will encompass the piece. The paralaxing elements combined with real effects (moving mist, shifting light, moving water) will immerse the viewer into the painterly world. The animals shown will stand apart from the background with a graphic, hard-edged treatment.
