Independence is concerned with defining what it means to be independent. Using visual representation and language I have combined the two in a way that encompasses both my interest in design and my work in photography and fine art. I chose to be the designer, photographer, and model because this project about my own self discovery.

The colored lighting is an important part of my photo installation. It allows me to infuse my work with color without applying it to the photos themselves. By adhering my prints to metal panels, a material called dibond, the prints become fantastically rigid and reflective. I use light to help distinguish the prints from the white wall, while adding another dimension to the work. I chose variations of red as a symbol of strength and empowerment, a characteristic of the independent woman.
