The concept for this trailer was derived from Brown and RISD's collegiate taiko group's name, "Gendo", which loosely translates to "path to illusion." The song being performed, Miyake, is a traditional Japanese song that was developed for a festival, Gozu Tenno Sai in the island of Miyake-jima. Each taiko group performs Miyake in their own different style, and Gendo attribute themselves to a more grounded form of playing where the exchange of energy between the drummer and the taiko fortifies physical and mental capacity.
As a member of the group, I also drew upon experiences and the empowerment I felt from playing Miyake, using those sentiments as a guide to the way I shot and edited the trailer.
