The concept for the SFO airport lounge is to create a mobile work office for traveling business people. Unlike a membership only business class lounge, this lounge will be available for anyone to use for an hourly or monthly rate.  The front of the space including the retail and eat-in area is public and anyone may enter for no fee. More people are trying to get work done on layovers and during time between connecting flights, but the main seating areas in airports are not suitable for working efficiently. The private lounge area aims to address these issues. Several different combinations of workstations and lounge seating give options for a person’s preference and each spot has power and data hookups through a raised floor.
Since people using this lounge will most likely be waiting for a connecting flight, the design strategy arose from the idea of connections and played a large role in the design of the storefront.  The name for the lounge combines the idea of connections and how the rapid technology wave connects business people today.
Research shows that people dislike the lack of privacy in airports thus furniture that provides visual separation and a feeling of enclosure was selected. For example, Naught One has their Hush and Busby line that has sides that visually block one person from the next.  The Herman Miller chairs and stools in the eat-in area play off the connectivity concept.
