1965, Viola, a young thief poses as a maid in order to steal from a wealthy family in Tuscany. Upon being received by the family she discovers a vulnerable woman and her infant child who fall victim to the violent ways of an American father, Arthur Miller. The woman is slain and a sympathetic Viola kidnaps the infant boy and flees.
Forty years later, Viola has raised the boy as her own son. However, Miller has been paroled from prison and is seeking revenge. Viola must once again protect the innocence of her now adult son from the murderous rage of a father he never knew.
