'The Piano Tuner' is about a reclusive young piano tuner called Shen who, due to abuse as a child, has a constant ‘A’ note that rings in his ear. Due to a developing fascination with his client, he forces himself to attend a piano recital for the first time in his life - despite his pathological fear of the sound of applause.

In people’s eyes, Shen does not exist. His abuse as a child left him with two gifts. A constant ‘A’ note ringing in his ear, and a complete lack of interest in love, affection or friendship. He is a brilliant piano tuner - but other than the occasional job, he never leaves the house.

Things change when he notices his Tinnitus evolving. There is a client, a pianist with the most perfect pair of hands. When he is around her, his Tinnitus changes pitch. He is not in love – but the pianist’s interest in him plants the possibility in his mind that his lack of understanding of people, is all that keeps him satisfied with life.

When the pianist invites him to her final recital before leaving the country for good, Shen is confronted with a choice of investigating his deepening curiosity towards her and this new found human connection. Not only does he have to brave his pathological fear of the sound of applause, but by attending her recital, he risks losing the innocence that has been sheltering him all these years.
