D&AD New Blood Awards - Airbnb Brief

The brief requested an exectution which will enable Airbnb’s existing community to grow while harnessing the idea of allowing travellers to belong anywhere with Airbnb.

My solution sees the employment of an extension to Airbnb’s existing online platform manifesting in the development of a unique travel platform, with the intent of enabling travellers to uncover the hidden gems of their chosen destination. Allowing them to encounter their destination as the locals do and to achieve a heightened sense of belonging to the area.

While the platform also delivers the ‘traditional tourist‘ suggestions it encourages the user to opt for the more exciting ‘Airbnb experience’ in the city. Information of hidden gems are crowd-sourced from the locals through Airbnb’s current profile creation. Echoing Airbnb’s aspiration of allowing their community to ‘belong anywhere with Airbnb’ this campaign asks travellers ‘Why travel like everyone... when you can travel like you’, ‘Why experience ordinary travel... when you can experience extraordinary travel’.

The 'Hidden Gems' printed map, featured here using Dublin as an example, would be available in all Airbnb homes featuring their city of location prior to the launch of the online platform allowing the project to gain momentum and generate interest among Airbnb's users and future users.
