Intricacies of Figurative and Abstract Art

Indian paintings are appreciated throughout the world. Originally known for its rich collection of artifacts and traditional paintings, Indian art has now been acclaimed worldwide for its modern and contemporary paintings as well.

Modern paintings are though a foreign concept, potential and young talented artists of India have created exceptional modern designs. When you look for Indian paintings in museums, exhibitions and online art galleries, they are not necessarily traditional. Rather, modern artistic styles created by Indian artists are also exhibited.

Further intricacy of that matter, is to identify if it is modern art is abstract or figurative? There have been various arguments relating to both styles of designs and they have very peculiar differences. Both of these art styles emerged out by various art movements in 19th century. Being an art lover, you must know about all the little things about abstract and figurative art.

Abstract art is also known as a visual language which portrays numerous shapes, lines and textures. They usually give emphasis to colors rather than the drawings. This is to evoke emotions in viewers without major use of naturalism. Abstract art is devoid of any references to real world. They are argued to be designs of subconscious mind as they do not depict any particular aspect of world. Abstract art on its basis can be further classified into two forms i.e. partial and pure abstraction. Pablo Picasso, famous for development of cubism did not appreciate pure abstraction. His works of cubism seemed like an object was broken into pieces and then rearranged in the painting. Cubism indulged in use of brownish and neutral colors. Abstract artists did not employ conventional norms and had their own ideas of creating new designs. No traditional techniques of paintings were put to use. Expressive colors only attracted viewers and gained appreciation. Artists believed that colors themselves are beauty of paintings and do not need any figures for elaboration.

The urge of artists to reflect their thoughts and ideas relating to society led to the emergence of figures in paintings. Figurative art paintings are those which relate to real objects of the world around. This is why it is easier to relate to in comparison to abstract art. It seems more appealing and attractive to people in general. Figurative art began to be referred as modern art which associates figures of the real world. Majorly after World War II artists felt the dire need of illustrating the destruction and lack of humanity prevailing in existing times. Figurative art sometimes does involve use of old techniques which abstract artists did not incorporate.

Indian paintings both abstract and figurative lead an edge out because Indian artists have a particular sense of design and result in paintings which are full of creativity and experimentation of both new and traditional techniques. Today, there is no particular clarity between art and non-art. It is said that artists leave it on viewers to interpret what these Indian paintings could be about. Art is all about imagination and has come to be known as very complex idea. A painting could illustrate a sunflower which could depict different meanings according to the symbols and the sunflower types. Thus, symbols connect and disconnect two very similar paintings. Sometimes these paintings give emphasis more on the background than what is up front.

Contemporary Indian paintings are diversified and with digital and internet age, even more natural and realistic paintings are created. This has led to another level of art and artists are using online platforms more and more to achieve a higher recognition. This has led to artists emerging out of every corner of the world with exceptional designs and fresh techniques. Indian paintings are also exhibited in museums all over the world and will keep getting explored with time.
