2015 VOLVO C30 EV
A project that was focused on incorporating emerging materials into a pre-exsisting car, myself and a team of three other designers tackled the Volvo C30 EV.  We were given the target market of commuters in Savannah, GA.  Savannah is know for its historical preservation. For commuters this means very limited parking and congested roadways within the historical district, or the downtown area.  Within these confines the maximum speed one might travel would be 40 mph.  As for parking; metered on-street-parking is available as well as parking decks.  Parking is a major issue for this beautiful city.  Not only is it hard to come by, it can get expensive along with the constantly rising gas prices.  Since the parking situation can't change due to building restrictions, the vehicles commuters drive must.

In order to tackle the parking problem, our team decided to find materials that would help generate as much energy possible for the car to use, whether that be by sunlight or by driving the vehicle itself.  By supercharging the car with energy generating  materials we hoped to reduce the cost of charging the electric vehicle as well as giving the power company a larger resource to draw energy from, tapping into the idea of Smart Grid Technology.  Volvo's C30 EV allowed us to incorporate our ideas for emerging materials as well as providing us with a small enough footprint to work with for Savannah's parking.

Renderings of the final concept were done by myself using Photoshop.
