Istria is the gem of Croatia, but the one thing it lacks are mountains. Often I wonder how my home would look like if it had mountains stretching in the horizon. The only thing close to that are Istrian highlands, called Ćićarija. Ćićarija is a mountainous plateau that stretches in the north of Istria, thus creating a natural border with Slovenia. You can guess that it is my number one go-to place when it comes to photography and hiking. With only an hour-drive away from my place, I can find golden grasslands that stretch as far as the eye can see, small peaks and rolling hills dotted with pines that give you a feeling of drama from being half eaten by harsh winds blowing from the north. Here are some of my personal favorite images taken on my numerous trips there over the last few years.
