HIT PARADE - AMOR AMORE LOVE
Corriere della Sera - La Lettura #178
The artwork shows the songs present in the charts in Italy, year by year, from 1947 to 2013; and the twenty most common words, decade by decade, recurring in the same songs.
Specifically, from the centre to the outside are reported for each year: performer, most popular song title, reference year.
Then for the decade: the most widely used languages (in percentage) of the songs of the chart during that time and the twenty most common words in the same range.
Data comes from Hit Parade Italia, a website collecting all the billboards of italian music in the last 60 years. Data has been extracted using Kimono, scraping the website with owner's permission. Each song's lyrics have been collected from Wikitesti, using the WikiMedia APIs. Finally, each song language has been identified using the langdetect library for Python. Lyrics were analyzed using a custom script in Python, creating a list of most common words for each decade.
