Communities in Schools: Be a Hero

Communities in Schools
Making mentorship cool
Sometimes having the right mentor makes all the difference.

Communities in Schools Washington (CISWA) connects resources to schools, with a major focus to help prevent students from dropping out. The Be a Hero campaign worked to help increase mentor participation by young men of color.

Working closely with our client we developed a visual approach that plays off an urban street theme, but with a positive outcome. We knew our time with spokesman Shaun Alexander would be brief, so I worked in advance with photographer Chris Karges to make sure we were aligned on art direction and staging. When Shaun arrived, we had our shot within 15 minutes – and the kids all had time for autographs.

I finished the design with an urban-inspired type treatment and image post-processing. The campaign had visibility in magazines, bus ads, billboards and more. GA Creative was awarded a Summit Creative silver for cross-media campaigns.
