Tiny House Thesis (2015)

Problem Statement:
My partner and I are in need of a small, sustainable, and affordable form of housing. This housing needs to be able to be built by ourselves, must be mobile, and should meet our aesthetic preferences.
Thesis Statement:
I plan to use thorough interior detailing paired with sustainable material selections and practices to help my partner and I design a tiny house that is beautiful, affordable, and not harmful to the environment.
Goals:
Design a sustainable tiny house.  Design for maximum storage potential.  Design for high indoor air quality.  Design for comfort.  Design for convenience.
Concept:
The concept for this space is a Moroccan market. I was also inspired by Moroccan design and patterns in general and those influences made their way into the space as well. I selected this as a concept for multiple reasons:
-The pops of color against the warm, earthy tones.
-The idea of storage and how each vendor uses his space wisely and can store a lot in a small location.
-The idea of craftsmanship and all of the hand-made or hand-picked goods for sale at the market.
-The aged look of Moroccan doorways was inspirational in that such a mundane, commonly used object has such detail and could make a space or an opening feel important.
-Moroccan lanterns have cut-outs that emit shaped light and I am very drawn toward their warmth and manipulation of light.
-Moroccan markets are very low-budget yet efficiently designed spaces, which is similar to the tiny house.
