2D Isometric Social Game
Heartland Ranch is a 2d Isometric Social game, where the user has the task of maintaining their own ranch, with the assistance of the main characters from the CBC show, Heartland Ranch. The user completes missions and learns how to care for horses, harvest fruits & veg and herbs as well as build an array of businesses in order to make money and grow their ranch.
I took the role of the designer on this project. My tasks included developing the initial documents for the project (the detailed design doc, asset list, and mission doc), creating new in-game items for users to buy like business, decoration and harvest-able items as well as begin the balancing of the economy.
Re-iterating on the economy was a challenge. It involved initially designing the economy the way the designers intend for it to be used by the users and as we started getting testers onto the project, it was obvious to see what was being monopolized on and how it needed to be changed. It was also interesting to see how different people used the different facets of the app (like harvest-able items and delivery trucks together), and trying to ensure there was no one way that seemed better than another to get money, goods, medicine, and experience most of all.
