In thinking about the nature of the medium, we considered that a calendar, while primarily functional, must serve also as a piece of interest that enthrals and charms for a month at minimum. A photograph of a quarry simply won’t do.
So, we created a concept that allowed us to tell stories about all of the incredible things AfriSam’s products had help make possible. After all, cement is the most widely used manmade substance– it is in our memories, stories and futures.
We aimed to make AfriSam’s staff consider how big the wings of their butterfly effect are.
We designated one project to each month and stories for each project. The stories are warm and human and are all underpinned by the fact that they were made possible with AfriSam’s cement.
Beautifully photographed objects accompanied the stories they were inspired by, and the resultant work is a calendar, year planner and diary that provides more than the date.
