This was a national competition to design Baltimore’s local currency. The subjects of the printed notes were determined by the sponsoring organization, Baltimore Green Currency. While the original plan was to change the designs every year, they have kept these notes, and are planning to add BN10 and BN20 denominations soon. Over BN 33,000 are currently in circulation, accepted at numerous Baltimore-area merchants.

 

 

Additional graphic elements include the city skyline, local birds, and elements of the city crest. The birds happily double as the local sports teams, reinforced by the color choices.
