Chinese Radicals in Gothic Style

CHINESE GOTHIC RADICALS

I created two posters, both designed in Gothic style. One shows the name of the typeface whilst the other shows the Chinese radicals.
Chinese characters are made up of visually logical forms consisting of various diverse radicals. A Chinese radical is a graphical component
of a Chinese character under which the character is traditionally listed in a Chinese dictionary. This component is often a pictorial indicator, that is an indicator of the meaning of the character, though in some cases the original semantic connection has become obscure owing to changes in charac- ter meaning over time.
I selected 30 basic Chinese radicals which are ordered by the number of strokes. Then, I designed five Chinese characters in Gothic style to demon- strate the concept of my project. They consist
of different radicals which from the 30 Chinese radicals I designed.
This design represents my attempt to combine two completely different versions of written lan- guage by transferring letter forms and strokes to convey the power of typography. In other words,
I aspire to combine the different styles into some- thing that incorporates elements of oriental and occidental style.
