The Art of Physics

A small selection of illustrations and graphics related to physics.
Trapped between two branes. In string theory, a brane is a higher dimensional object with dimensions from zero to nine.
The smallest things in the entire universe can be thought of as tiny vibrating strings. Depending on how these superstrings vibrate, they will appear as different elementary particles.
A physics event inside a particle detector. The tracks correspond to particles created in a collision at the center of the volume. The red tracks are traces of muons from a decaying Higgs boson, the particle that gives mass to all particles. The following three graphics illustrations were made for the iOS app "The Physics Quiz - Particles", available at http://appstore.com/thephysicsquizparticles .
Earth bending space-time.
Electromagnetic field lines.
Negative of a film found in an underground tunnel at CERN, Switzerland in 1996, showing tracks of charged particles in a bubble chamber.
