Olympic Data Visualization

This project was for my Data Visualization class this semester. We were given various websites with all data from the Olympic games. We were free to choose what event and time frame to display. Due to data inconsistencies from game to game I started at 1972 for the men's and women's individual FITA 70m round. Each dot represents the medals earned and their spacial relationship is based on the scores. You will sometimes see that bronze medalists earn scores higher than both the silver and the gold medalists. This is due to the way the competition is run (the number 3 and 4 seat play for the bronze medal and the 1 and 2 seat play for the gold and silver medals). I coded this as a web display using the Dashing D3 library for the animations. Instead of having smooth transistions I chose to make the radius of the circle change to give the illusion that the dots are hitting the target. I also used a random function to delay the transition of each dot so that it looks like rapid fire.
