This project is an annex to the existing Library of the University of Kitakyushu at Kitakata Campus, featuring a new "Learning Commons" at the first floor. The Library aims to provide better learning experience for the students by providing different reading environment from "Silent rooms" to "Relaxing space".

 

At the third floor, reading rooms with seating steps provides and unusual experience of looking down the central light well which also serves as a solar chimney for natural ventilation.

 

Facade is composed of layers of different types of louvers both horizontal and vertical according to the direction of the sunlight. It also creates a layered space typical in Japanese architecture.
