I jumped at the chance to get involved in this project (book layout is one of my favorite things to do). After I finished, they asked if I could also layout the companion study guide. The cover was designed by Blake Campbell, Creative Arts Pastor of Milestone Church.

One of the things I love to do when I begin a new book is nail down the content structure (chapter title, chapter number, main paragraph, callouts, etc.). Layout is determined by the content structure, so this is a critical step in the process. This particular project contained 23 different types of content.
I love the typographical challenges that a book presents. You have to create a rhythm that works in the micro and macro sense of the work.
The layout of this particular project was a compromise of sorts with the client. I rarely suggest spaces between paragraphs, but the client wanted the book to be scannable versus a continuous flow.
