I work with found objects and day to day body movements. My pieces encourage viewers to observe, play, and interact with the artwork. In this series, I use machines to bring a heightened awareness to the viewer’s body as a way to draw attention to impulses in human behavior. The machines are my playful interpretation of interaction, movement, and interrelationship between object and body.
March in Place invokes feelings of nostalgia and innocence. The balloon and music box stand in for the human body, one which is constantly in motion even when still. In contrast to March in Place, Sensation suggests sexual stimulation. The plastic phallic object is wrapped with a stocking to give an impression of human skin and adorned with tassels to emphasize its movement. The viewer is invited to switch the work ON and OFF.
