Dr. Martens x SHENTONISTA

DR. MARTENS x SHENTONISTA CAMPAIGN
March 2015

Founded in 1947, Dr. Martens has grown to become associated with the working class, pop culture, music festivals, and the punk movement; today, it continues to evolve. Our collaboration with Dr. Martens showed how the iconic brand, known for its rugged, made-to-last boots, has grown up with its fans and can easily be incorporated into any workwear wardrobe. We featured eight personalities who not only showed us how they add a twist to the conventional with their Dr. Martens, but also shared more about their work, their lives, and what they stand for.

Brushstrokes
Adora, Self-Employed, Top Soeur, Pants Topshop, Shoes Dr.Martens, Cuffs Hermès and Cartier.

The last time we met Adora, she was engaged; this time round, she is happily married and well-rested from a honeymoon to Europe. It seems that her style has undergone a subtle change as well; this look is slightly more casual, but still workplace friendly. Her chunky-heeled, slip-on Dr. Martens add an unexpected, preppy twist her tailored pants and loose-fit blouse. We catch up with her to find out what she’s been up to.
Liberty
Jonathan, Publishing, Jacket from COS, Jeans from H&M, Shoes from Dr. Martens, Bag from Dr. Martens.

It seems that Jonathan can pull off almost any look. He manages to make the denim-on-denim look work, and breaks the monotony with different shades of brown — a camel jacket, tan bag, and mahogany boots. It seems that playing with colour is something that Jonathan finds fun in doing, as we discover when we speak to him.
A Little Different
Arissa, Publishing, Top Cameo, Pants Zalora, Shoes Dr.Martens, Necklace Mandy Wu Label, Watch Daniel Wellington.

Arissa is known for her monochromatic style, which she often amps up even further with punk-inspired elements. Her lace-up leather heels are right up her alley, but with a simple jacket thrown on, her outfit passes for office-appropriate without losing any of her spunk.
In A Different Place
Yong, Designer, Shirt from Muji, thrifted Jacket, Pants from Uniqlo, Shoes from Dr. Martens, Bag from Dr. Martens.

Jackets seem to be Yong’s thing at the moment; this blue one that he’s wearing today, in particular, has become quite a signature of his. Yong founded and currently heads a design studio and consultancy called Somewhere Else, and like its offbeat name, his style is equally unconventional, both when it comes to his dress sense and his personal influences.
Never The Same
Jacqueline, Media, Jumpsuit from Primark, Shoes from Dr. Martens, Clutch from Dr. Martens, Scarf from Uniqlo.

Jacqueline admits that she’s usually in black, although this time, she’s added some colour in the form of a scarf and socks to go with her T-bar heels. We managed to catch her just after she returned from at trip to the United Kingdom, and among all the other excitement from her trip, she’s also a newly-minted fiancee. It seems that spontaneity is something she loves; we find out more about it when we speak to her.
Aligned
Kien, PR & Marketing, Jacket from Basic House, Pants from Topman, Shoes from Dr. Martens, Bag from Marni

It seems that Kien's sense of style hasn’t changed — he usually tries to add something a bit more sporty to his look to dress it down a little, so despite the navy blazer and brogue-style shoes, his rough-around-the-edges bag helps to balance his look. Read on to find out more about his style, his job, and what he thinks makes a good pair of shoes.
In Practice
Ally, Law, Top from COS, Skirt from COS, Shoes from Dr. Martens, Bag from Dr. Martens, Earrings from Odette from Sponge & Spike.

Each time we meet Ally, she always looks a little different; that just goes to show how versatile her style is, and how she’s continually exploring different looks to find out what she likes. There’s a bit of a girlish charm in her shoes and bag today, tempered by the origami-like pleats of her skirt and her fuss-free blouse. Read on to find out more about what items she can’t live without, and her current favourites.
Fine & Dandy
Ernie, Bespoke Menswear, Jacket from PIMABS, Pants from PIMABS, Shoes from Dr. Martens, Tie from Topman, Sunglasses from Raybans.

Ernie really knows his stuff, and with good reason — he works in menswear tailoring, and each time we’ve spotted him, he’s a shining example for men everywhere. He hardly breaks a sweat on set, even in this heat; that’s how used he is to wearing suits. He shares more about his thoughts on menswear and what he’s into at the moment — plenty, it seems!
