BRIEF
Designing furniture involves understanding the requirements of the user and the pupose of of the furniture. I wanted to create the prototype of a chair that can be dismantled ans stored away in case there is extra space required. This chair needed to have minimal mechanisms to dismantle and build again. This chair was designed for students especially as being a student i could relate to it more. Through my experience i know that there are times when a student would like more space in his/her room.

ANTHROPOMETRICS
The measurements of the chair were decided according to average Indian male/female body dimensions.
The approx values being –
1 Shoulder height 580 mm
2 Breadth of the chair 450mm
3 Height of the cross section from ground 420mm
4 Seat length 480mm
5 Distance from centre to feet 900mm

MATERIAL
For this prototype i have used normal plywood but the actual wood can be of hardwood or some alloy or plastic.
No nails or glue was used in making of this chair.

CHALLENGES
The major task in making this chair was to cut at different angles with hand.
I learnt how not to do stuff next time and also how to paint better.

It might look simple but cutting angles and balancing the weight and pressure is not an easy task.

Ideation
After a lot of ideation sketches i decide on using triangular shape form for my chair. I realised that rather than using the full triangle as a shape i could just place them in a way and use only lines of it form. So my design is like two isosceles triangles placed vertically with their heads touching each other and fixing them in a way that minimal material is used, portable and no use of nails or adhesive is done.

Learnings

1 Material limitations like cracking and bending easily.
2 The angle which was cut was not precise for seating after making.
3 It was supposed to be more vertical and not like a recliner. That is why a head rest was not made which did not work later on.
4 The lock mechanism worked somehow but changes can be made to make it minimal.
