In 1927, Ashendene Press edits the story of Don Quixote de la Mancha de Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616 ). For this publishing, Hornby, Walker and Cockerel draw a character that they name “Ptolemy”, according to the one that Lienhart Holle (printer based in Ulm) created in 1482 for the work Cosmographia; which is an important cartographic publishing made by Claudius Ptolemaeus. The goal of the workshop was to redraw the Ptolemy, a character which is halfway Gothic and Roman (“Gotico-Antiqua”). To date, it doesn’t exist under a digital shape, but it will possibly be spread into bold and italic versions.
The workshop consists of calligraphic exercises in order to better understand the transition between calligraphy and typography.
