The Anonymous movie reminded me of the situation of intellectuals in the Middle East. Currently we live in a difficult time in the world, particularly in the Middle East. It is certain that Middle Eastern intellectuals can play an important role in the future evolution of this region. One of the biggest problems these societies is the inability of intellectuals to reveal who they are and what is in their mind. These specific people have had impact upon social, political and cultural spheres in the region. Why have intellectuals in the west been given so much attention while in the Middle East intellectuals are relatively unknown?
For this project I was seeking to show the struggles of the life of an intellectual and reveal this feeling to my audience, and how it is relates to the society and politics. I liked to show an overview of the role of influential thinkers in public life around the world.
Using fabric as a “trap” I wanted to express the feeling a tortured soul.
This was achieved by using human body gestures stretching the fabric.
