This personal illustration project was created because of my personal love of the musician and (rap goddess) Nicki Minaj. I wanted to experiment with the shape of her highly curvaceous body and the bright colours used in her outfit. This illustration was based off of a photograph of Nicki Minaj at the release of her first fragrance Pink Friday at Macy’s; because of this I chose to use the lyrics from her 2012 single Freedom – where she raps “Pink Friday in Macy’s, Thongs and some pasties, (Yo’, what other female rapper perfume in there? ‘Cause I must’ve missed it), 12 milli to kick my feet up, Get ready this is the RE-UP). These lyrics are featured in the background of the illustration in a distorted ‘street’ style, further referencing her career in Urban/Hip Hop music. The lyrics were also positioned specially to feature her debut studio album at the start ‘Pink Friday’ and her third album (a re-release of the second) ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up’ or just ‘The Re-Up’ for short.
This is a close up of the illustration to highlight the special detail used on favourite features of mine, such as the hair strokes, the bra/crop she wears and her nails – which feature a very subtle glitter texture.
