This book is a documentation of the nuances and beauty of everyday journeys. With the context of ‘dérive’ and situationist theory I have experimented with fear, eerie and the uncanny around Holloway. A ‘dérive’ is the act of drifting through a city within a specific time frame usually between one sleep to the next.
With this work I photographed Holloway just as the sun was setting during the winter of 2010 and drifted around the area until the fear of being outside in Holloway took hold. Having just moved to the area, Holloway seemed to hold an atmosphere of hostility and eeriness when the sky started to turn to night, which gives the feeling of physically not wanting to walk around at night. This is emphasised by the presence of the prison, the silence and emptiness of human activity down the streets.
