"Private Dance", is an interactive performance where I ask my audience to help me face the reality of my past actions.
"Private Dance" is an interactive, one-to-one performance that uses Augmented Reality to layer self-shot video onto the public environment around us.
During the performance I use an iPad and a black cloth covering it to create a wearable viewing room. I ask my audience member to hold the iPad and guide us around the room. I use a notebook with my writing about my experiences as triggers for the augmented reality layers to float on top of the real-time footage of the physical environment around us. As each video ends I ask my audience member if they would like to continue and we move to a different space and access a new video.
I ask my audience to physically walk me through this process and to support me by not rejecting my image and account of my actions.
"Private Dance" highlights the fact that images of women are so rarely in their own control. My footage is self shot and self edited, giving me ultimate control over my own image. I have full ownership of the footage as I have hold of the trigger to the videos: the notebook, throughout the performance.
