The Genealogy of Electronic Dance Music

This project challenged me to explore the process of mapping a network based on information I was responsible for collecting. It considered mapping as a process of locating elements and expressing relationships between them. The concept of The Genealogy of Electronic Dance Music formed when at the time, I was taking a course in Electronic music and was intrigued by the relationships between the genres, where they came from and how they came to be. The information collected was a synthesis between research obtained through course material and information found from online resources.

The Genealogy of Electronic Dance Music, a 24" x 36" infographic, focuses on the relationships between genres and subgenres. It visualizes 3 main concepts, the relationships between the genres and their connection to Disco, the years they began and perhaps faded, and the places around the world in which they set their roots in. The infographic offers information about the main genres and landmark events that occurred during these very pivotal times in the movement of electronic dance music. The infographic strives to educate listeners in the history of how this genre came to be.
