    DOOM illustration.

Illustration of the iconic DOOM logo.

DOOM was created by ID software in 1993 which gave birth to the FPS genre as we know it today. It had pioneering immersive 3D graphics, networked multiplayer gaming, and support for customized additions and modifications just like todays modern FPS. It was a milestone in gaming history with a logo to match. It's perfectely balanced, sharp looking edges and famous silhouette are know world wide by gamers of all generations. The original was created by illustrator Don Ivan Punchatz. He was an artist comfortable with any style and switched between photo-realism, humorous illustration, and surrealism throughout his life time.

DOOM Re-texture.

DOOM was a game centred around our main protagonist, an un-named space marine battling hordes teleported from hell to fight in mars. The shapes and spaces are not random they represent the game in that they are dark, sinister and hellish in their nature but also captivating just like the DOOM logo. The typography shape for the DOOM lettering is exact to scale with the original. I have re-textured the inside's with dark patterns, re-occuring line work and nightmarish graphic architecture to best diplay the DNA of the DOOM franchise and what it means to me. This is a very nostalgic illustration for me, it reminds me of a time when all I had to worry about was playing the game, nothing else. It's also a homage to ID Software who are a developer that I have alot or respect for and have created many great game since the creation of DOOM. I have spent alot of time playing their games over the years.
