Through this series of images, photographer Aneev Rao merges his characters with their surroundings: wisps of blonde hair echo the texture of hay, the figures hide their eyes behind stray leaves. A reductive black and white palette imbue the series with a sense of nostalgia. The bright winter sunlight both highlights and hides to blur the boundaries between dream and reality.

In a contemporary world, where fashion photography is often deemed superficial, Aneev and Kshitij, attempt to create images that are raw and unpolished, but also playful in their subversion of fashion photography’s norms.
