Diversity in life is created by unlimited permutations and combinations of only four DNA building blocks
i.e. the nucleotides, guanine (G), adenine (A), thymine (T), or cytosine (C).
This creates infinite potential for diversity in DNA and hence, endless diversity in life.

In this series of works, four-plate colour etching was used to demonstrate the endless variation
that can be created using only four units, like the four DNA blocks mentioned above,
to create unlimited variation and hence, diversity.

Four etching-plates (together making up a single image) are each inked up with varying coloured inks and then printed sequentially onto different kinds of paper, but in random order.
The additional transfer of ink from the paper to the plates during the four-plate printing process,
and the subsequent transfer of off-set prints when the plate is used again,
also creates a process of hereditary transfer and  introduces further variation.

The end result is a multiple of individual printed works that are recognisable as coming from the same set of four-plates but each work is however completely different, distinct and unique.
