Found Cardboard, Audio Installation, Lighting Setup

This is a sculptural and audio installation for my year 6 coursework (final art project for high school), consisting of sound system as well as two objects made entirely out of found cardboard that I collected over the period of a month. The cardboard is manipulated such that it can mimic the texture of wood, cloth, pillow, and blanket. There is a depression at the middle of the bed - which is a life size replica of my boarding bed - and that signifies myself being present on the bed, sleeping and finding comfort.

I lived in Singapore to pursue my study for 4 years, away from my parents and my original home.
BDO is the international code for my hometown, while Singapore's is SIN. This artwork represents the journey of the bed, its experience, and thus mine as well. It is an introspection and, at the same time, an inquiry into the unique international experience that is shared within my family.
Bed placed in a corner, which signifies the idea of a personal space
A manually fabricated packaging box of the bed, which is made to seem as if it is stored in a corner and has been used for multiple times. The tip of the blanket pointing towards the packaging suggest a relationship between the two
The pillow with a depression in the center, signifying the presence and absence of a person
All of the printed text on the cardboard surface are made using xylene transfer from printed images.
Symbol from left to right: this side up, handle with care, keep from water, fragile
Barcode and combination of number that corresponds to my Indonesian citizenship number and foregin identification number in SIngapore
The symbols on the cardboard package corresponds to the symbols on the bed, which reaffirms the relationship between the two
Depression on the bed, with my passport code printed on it. This provides a specificity of the individual that is directly suggested by the depression
Texture of the blanket, made out of cardboard sheets which are peeled for multiple of times
Frontal view of the bed. Printed text and markings provide specificty to the bed, which can be found in almost all packaged items
Multiple layers of mailing address, implying that the bed has gone through multiple journeys over a period of time
