The residents of Jeppestown Hostel have been served with a three month eviction notice without being given an alternative area they can occupy. It has been speculated that “Maboneng” has purchased the hostel and renovations are expected to commence once the residents have vacated the area.
Residents are currently retaliating by disrupting the day-to-day activities of the Jeppestown community; their primary grievance stems from the concern that they cannot afford to pay rent elsewhere.
