My first ever photo journalism project, was when I was asked to cover the protests in Jeppestown, Johannesburg. I had no idea how I would do this but was more than willing to tackle this challenge that was posed to me.
I realised that a protest in much more than just a group of people running around the street and disturbing everyday life. There are people, faces in these crowds that feel that the only way they can be heard is by standing up and making sure that “the man” hears them.
I then decided that I would capture these faces, that normally get lost in the crowds, show their intense/desperate attempts at being heard.
