The purpose of this Master Thesis was to broaden and deepen knowledge of the contemporary prison architecture typology and to indicate and identify possible challenges and design directions of that discipline. This paper employs the concepts of metaphors and models used in a detention architecture spatial design throughout the Enlightenment to present days to explore the potential of the void as an enclosing and controlling tool in architecture.
